  • Please wear undergarments and bring a pair of your character shoes to your fitting.
  • No Eating or Drinking in costume except water.
  • Please hang up all the costumes on the rack under your name in the dressing room.
  • The Costume Crew are not your servants, they are here to help but please treat them respectfully.
  • Please arrive at call time and begin getting ready asap. No waiting until the last minute. Always leave room for error!
  • Please put undergarments in your lingerie bag for the wash on laundry days. T shirts go into the basket of our laundry cart.
  • No food in dressing rooms. It attracts mice.
  • Keep your stations tidy and organized. A chaotic station will lead to lost items.
  • If you are cast in a mainstage production, please do not cut or dye your hair without asking Michael if it is ok.

Character Shoes for Musical Theater Majors

We strongly recommend you purchase your own character shoes to ensure proper fit and comfort during the run.

Women- Dance character Shoes with heels in black and beige. Capezio or similar. La Brie Dance in Smithfield carries these and offers a discount to RIC students. If you can only afford one pair, I would suggest beige.

Men- Lace up dance character shoes in black. Capezio or similar.

Makeup

Students cast in a show are required to have a basic makeup kit that includes theatrical creme foundation in a matching skin tone, a creme highlight, and a creme shadow. I suggest the Ben Nye Proscenium Series for these colors. They can be ordered from Alcone Makeup Store and other retailers.

Michael can assist you in choosing the correct color. He is in the Costume Shop every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 to 4 this semester. All other makeup can be your choice of brands and can be found in drugstores or dollar stores. Family Dollar has a good selection for a good price. Job Lot is also a great inexpensive source. Makeup brush sets can be found on Amazon for inexpensive. Specialty makeup such as FX items ,tattoos, and facial hair will be provided by the shop.  You must also provide makeup removal items such as makeup remover wipes, cold cream, and face cloth.  We will provide most hair items, but if you have favorite products or tools, you are welcome to use them.
