Hello RIC Theatre Community!
ReplyDeleteWe as faculty want to keep you in the loop. As far as we all know, RIC will be offering online classes for the Fall semester. We have submitted a proposal to the administration asking to have a hybrid approach (online and in person) to classes, rehearsals, and performances. We have not heard back officially about what the college intends to do. (The announcement is due to happen between July 15-31st.)
As soon as we know anything, we will let you all know right away.
Be confident, however, that one way or the other, we will be doing some form of performance for Everyman and The Laramie Project.
We are imagining a version of performance that could be streamed, involve live and filmed components, might use green screens -- we are entering unknown territory, which means that things will probably involve a few spectacular risks -- but this is what artistry is all about. Yes, things are unresolved right now -- but the school will be providing parameters in the next month and then we can get to work.
There will be a lot of challenges, to be sure. But as we know, you can take the artist out of the theater, but you can't take the theatre out of the artist. :) Casey and Bill are starting to work out rehearsal plans; Alan and Katryne are beginning to imagine what kind of abstract sets and lighting can be created. Your creative input and collaborative efforts will be vital!
So, here's to the Fall 2020. We'll touch base again soon!
