Theatre Org. Meeting

**If you did not put your information on our email list and you would like to join Theatre Org. please send me your information (name, year, concentration, RIC email)**

Here are the notes from today's meeting. I don't usually put them on callboard but I wanted to make sure that everyone who was not at the meeting got a chance to see these notes in case they change their mind or see they missed the email sign in information. Again- if you did not give me you contact into please email it to me so I can add you to the contact list.

Introduction-
Andrea Vargas- President
Jon Klos- Vice President
Michaela Pendola- Secretary
Tyler-Lynn Tavares- Treasurer

Discussion:

  • ALWAYS CHECK CALLBOARD! Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Callboard.
  • There will now be a calendar in the bulletin board in the lounge outside of the little theatre
  • Retreat in the fall and in spring. Fall retreat on campus
    • we spoke about holding the second on off campus and going to a trampoline park as a group- fundraiser?
  • Meditation group? Meeting occasionally on a Wednesday during free period. Email me if this is something you would be interested in.
  • Peer Workshops? Clay Thompson mentioned holding a Shakespeare workshop (or other workshops) run by peers based on information or techniques you may have learned outside of campus. example- if you went away over the summer or winter break that focused on a certain technique and you would like to share that knowledge with your peers.
  • Workshops/ people we spoke about potentially getting in touch with to bring in:
    • Adam Sanders?
    • Connie Crawford?
    • Pat Hawkridge?
  • America Project Too - Trinity Rep
  • Email us if you would like to help us out by putting posters up on and off campus. This is a very helpful way of getting outside people to come in and support our department. You never know- the poster you hang could inspire someone to come see one of our productions, they could fall in love with the art, and join our program 😀
  • Marisa and Michael spoke about her growing stage productions. If you have questions specific to that please email or speak to them personally about it.
  • Play writing group now run by Kate Hallal (khallal_5295@email.ric.edu)
  • Play reading group now run by Jon Klos (jklos_6984@email.ric.edu)
  • Improv group now run by Jon Klos
If you have any question please feel free to email me at any time. My email is mpendola_6051@email.ric.edu

We are very excited to start this year! Let's make it a good one!

PS: A great thing that Bill Wilson said at the meeting today was about how important it is to support each other both in our concentration and the others in the department that we may not be studying with but will work closely with! It is so important to support your peers by seeing shows, recognizing what others do to make your job a little easier, and thanking people for the hard work they do! Let's always keep this is mind throughout the whole school year- and let's always be supportive of each other!!!

THEATRICAL WORK ON PRODUCTIONS OFF CAMPUS.
As a Rhode Island College student, we expect that your first priority will be the productions at RIC.  For all performers, it is required that you will audition for all 4 RIC Mainstage productions.  If you do and are not cast, you may notify the Managing Director of Theatre (in writing) for permission to audition for an off-campus production. For technicians and designers, priority must be given to on campus productions. Outside work must be approved ahead of time by Chris and Alan.

PUNCH CARDS:
Attendance at all RIC Theatre events is mandatory, regardless of whether or not you are performing, including Mainstage and Growing Stage performances.  Attending performances is part of your education!
All students must attend the following 10 events:
·         Fall Welcome Meeting
·         Open dress for all 4 Mainstage shows, and the 2 Growing Stage shows
·         Spring Welcome Meeting
·         The ACTF send off
·         Senior Showcase on campus

CLASS ATTENDANCE
Courses are organized on a principal of student growth through active participation.  Lectures and assignments are carefully placed throughout the semester to aid the acquisition of knowledge and understanding.  Therefore, attendance and participation are expected at all class meetings.  All assignments must be handed in on time.  No make-ups will be allowed without prior instructor approval. For a class that meets twice a week, the final grade will be lowered by a full letter grade if the number of absences exceeds two. For a class that meets once a week, the final grade will be lowered by a full letter grade if the number of absences exceeds one. There are no excused absences and incompletes will only be given in accordance with college policies.

WHAT IS THTR 178, 278, 378 AND 478? WHAT IS THTR 091? And how do they work?

Available Classes

MUSICAL THEATRE MAJORS!

The following two classes (which offer a valuable opportunity to focus on your own skills and material) are presently low in enrollment. They only need 2-3 more students:

MUS 241: Musical Theatre Singing (1 credit)
Monday 12-1:50pm in NC 198
and
THTR 450 Special Topics: Musical Theater (3 credits)
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10-10:50am
location TBD

These courses should not be confused with THTR 346: Musical Theatre Performance, which focuses on individual performances within a group project.

MUS 241 is an introductory level course, while THTR 450 is a deep-dive into a specific area/time/composer of Musical Theatre.

With either of these classes, you will get a chance to work closely with Lila Kane to develop a repertoire of songs that you can use for audition or performance.
