SAVE THE DATE: Growing Stage Auditions

SAVE THE DATE - Auditions for the spring growing stage (5 Women Wearing the Same Dress) will be the Sunday before school resumes in January.... so we wanted to get it on peoples' radars now. Details will be announced in December.

This show DOES NOT conflict with MACBETH, but does conflict with Cry-Baby: The Musical. If you're in the musical, you should put yourself on the do not cast list for growing stage.

Thanks!

The Monologue Project -- online resource for Black Female-Identifying Actors

Hello all --

If you are or someone you know is looking for monologues and pieces that are written specifically for Black female-identifying artists, check out this website, if you haven't already:

https://bishopartstheatre.org/the-monologue-project/

Per the website, The Monologue Project:

"...is an online resource featuring 30 original monologues from nationally recognized playwrights. TMP aims to increase the number of audition-length monologues for Women of the African Diaspora and celebrate their impact on theater and the world. We join in solidarity with the woman-driven activism of movements like Black Lives Matter, acknowledging the essential role of black women in America. We also acknowledge those women who have already contributed to this canon and who have paved the way for other writers and actors."

The project was begun by acclaimed playwright Dominique Morriseau.

Enjoy and Spread the word!

THTR 091 Information for Freshmen -- 2nd Posting

This is information about THTR 091 and the end-of-semester juries. This information has already been published here on the Callboard, but just in case anyone needs it all in one post, here it is:

What are the juries?
At the end of each semester, students concentrating in Performance and Musical Theatre must complete an assignment (performing and filming monologues or songs) and then have a short meeting with Bill Wilson and Casey Seymour Kim.
When are they?
Each student has been given an assigned time and day.
These times have been posted on the RIC Callboard.
If you do not see your name on the list, just let us know and we'll figure out a time for you.
Where are they?
The meetings will be in the BABS (Billie Anne Burill Studio) -- the studio space that is next to the elevator in the Nazarian Center, around the corner of the dance studio and vending machines. Theatre performance classes are held there.
What do I need to do/What is my assignment?
All Freshman in their first semester are assigned the same monologue.
1. Read through the monologue and film yourself performing it.
2. Upload the video to this padlet page, or send it to Casey Seymour Kim (casey.seymourkim@gmail.com) or Bill Wilson (wwilson@ric.edu.)
3. Please submit this at least 2 days before your meeting with Bill and Casey.
[FYI -- all of these details are on the RIC Callboard. Part of being a theatre major is checking the RIC Callboard every week for announcements and information about auditions, workshops, talks, rehearsal times, etc.]
*******
Here is the monologue information:
*******
This is a monologue from the short play Variations on the Death of Trotsky by David Ives.
(You can access a pdf of the play at this linkIt is very short.)

Trotsky:

So even an assassin can make the flowers grow. The gardener was false, and yet the garden that he tended was real. How was I to know he was my killer when I passed him every day? How was I to know that the man tending the nasturtiums would keep me from seeing what the weather will be like tomorrow? How was I to know I'd never see Casablanca, which wouldn't be made until 1942 and which I would have despised anyway? How was I to know I'd never get to know about the bomb, or the eighty thousand dead at Hiroshima? Or rock and roll, or Gorbachev, or the state of Israel? How was I supposed to know I'd be erased from the history books of my own land..?

Sometime, for everyone, there's a room that you go into, and it's the room that you never leave. Or else you go out of a room and it's the last room that you'll ever leave. This is my last room.

Survey about "Hamilton" (aka Help Liz Seastrom's Honors Thesis!!)

Hey guys!

My name is Elizabeth Seastrom (Liz as most of you know me) and I’m currently working on my honors thesis and need your help!

My thesis is about Hamilton: An American Musical written by Lin Manuel Miranda and will be exploring the phenomenon that is Hamilton and how it had an impact both in and outside the theatre industry.

In order to help explore that, I have decided to survey students here at RIC in departments I feel the musical may have had the most influence, and the first and most obvious option is the theatre department.

So, if you all could go to this link and fill out the survey before December 1st, that would be much appreciated!

I have also emailed professors, so it's possible that you will get a few CCs in your inbox that all say that same thing -- haha!

Thank you!

Liz

Please film yourself performing this piece and upload it to this padlet page.

Trotsky:

091 End of Semester Appointments

Hello Theatre Majors --

A couple of students had asked about the end-of-semester appointments that are scheduled in December (the 1st, 8th, and 15th).

Meeting with performance and design instructors is required for all theatre majors. There are different assignments that you will need to prepare, depending on what year you are (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior), and what your track is (Musical Theatre, Performance, Technical Design -- General Theatre majors should follow the Performance requirements unless otherwise advised).

Performers: Bill Wilson has already scheduled everyone for an appointment. If you are unclear about your designated day and time, please check under the calendar tab here on the Callboard -- look to December and check for the 091-MT/ Performance.

If there is any issue with your designated day and time, please contact Bill Wilson at wwilson@ric.edu ASAP.

Also -- because of where the holiday weekend falls this year, I will be posting the monologue that freshman are required to submit by the end of this week.

If you are unclear about any of the 091 performance requirements, please speak with either myself (casey.seymourkim@gmail.com) or Bill Wilson (wwilson@ric.edu).

Technical Designers: Please consult Alan Pickart (apickart@ric.edu) or Nicki Frechette-Shaw (nfrechette@ric.edu) to determine your appointment time on December 8th and the presentation requirements.

Thank you and have a great week!
