James T

This is the thing that I don’t seem to understand. Why? On god’s green earth. Do you actually

believe that we still give a damn? I can’t seem to wrap my brain cells around that particularNo... No... No- Because its not about that. You wanna make it about that. But it ain’t gonna be

about that as long as I’m here. And I’m here. Now you gat me out here this morning. To secure

this place. And I’m here. Now we know she’s a fool. We know that she gonna get up in here and

act the plum fool. Of course she gonna be liquored up. Liquored up. Cracked up. Something

Uped. She will be Uped on something. You know that. I know that. And that's the problem. Why

do we give a damn anymore. This is not about Mama. Mama didn’t give a damn when she was

here and now that she’s dead everybody wanna bring her back up out the grave to say what the

hell she would do if she was here. She ain’t here. She Dead.

LILLIE ANNE

James T I’m not gonna dance with you over this all day today. Now if you want a pat on your

gatdamn back for comin today then come on over here and I will pat you on your gatdamn back

but I don’t have the energy nor the interest in rustlin and tumblin with you over being here. You

and me both know you ain’t gat nuthin else to do this morning and therefore the least you can

achieve in your trailer park living asshole of a life is to help your sister in her time of need.

MARIE

We was all at the house on Baltimore. And Mama had just started batterin’ some chicken and

Big Bob came runnin in shoutin’- “HE KILLED MAMA HE KILLED MAMA!” And I was like “WHO

KILLED WHO??!!” And Big Bob was like “WHOOKIE JUST KILLED MAMA!!” Then all of a

sudden the rest of Big Bob’s brothers and sisters come running into the damn house with Blood

all over their arms and stuff and I’m like “WAIT A GATDAMN MINUTE WHATS GOIN’ ONS???”

(laughing) And they all started talkin real fast real quick and we all ran out to the porch and they

pointed across the street at their house and

ADLEAN.

... Barbara. I remember how you use to come in and... tickle my feet in the morning. You knew I

never liked getting up for school so you said you’d wake me up with a laugh. And I know

sometimes I’d bust you in the jaw with a shoe, but the ticklin’ grew on me and I started to expect

it. Well sis, I need my little tickle alarm clock back in my life. I would like to leave this earth

knowing that you had gotten your life back together... put your self together in a whole different

way without all those drugs and drink. It makes me very sad to have to be riding through

downtown with my grandkids and see you standing on the street corner after having shitted on

yourself.

BLACK MOVIE STAR BARBARA.

Its going to be a great movie... And I’m not just saying that because I’m writing, directing,

producing, starring, and singing the title song. I really think it’s going to be a contender for the

Big One. Best Picture. I mean the scene of your Intervention in this park... Awards. Buckets. Of

Awards. ...Half dozen Naked Golden Men in my arms…

WHITE BARBARA.

You know what, I’ve sat here for the last several minutes as you rattled on and on about

whatever crazy shit you were rattling on and on about- telling me I’m not believable, you’re not

black and I’m a crack head alcoholic Ho... Well Ms. MOVIE STAR SANGA, MY LIFE is

Believable!!! Because its True. Its YOUR LIFE that ain’t believable. You come here like a fairy

tale in your company jet with your “walk over there” so you can commune get into your zone for

some Awards- you want Real Talk... here’s some Real Talk... Fuck You Bitch!!

Open Call for Spring Growing Stage: 26 Pebbles

On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed twenty-six innocent souls before taking his own life. These twenty-six innocent deaths, like pebbles thrown into a pond, created ripples and vibrations that were felt far beyond the initial rings. This is the story of those vibrations.

Similar in style to The Laramie Project, playwright Eric Ulloa conducted interviews with members of the community in Newtown and crafted them into an exploration of gun violence and a small town shaken by a horrific event.

Audition Information:

Casting: 6 Females/ 4 Males

Trigger Warning: This show discusses the details of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre. Each character in this show is connected to the tragedy in some way. Some are parents of students in the school, some are first responders to the event, and some are the clergy who endlessly served the community. You must be comfortable speaking about gun violence, mental health, and the victims of this event.

Seeking: Highly motivated and dedicated actors who are comfortable working on an emotionally deep level.

Required: Updated resume, Headshot, and a Self-tape of a monologue from the provided sidesSides will be posted January 3rd

Submissions are due no later then January 19th at midnight.

Callbacks if needed will be held via a zoom call on January 21st.

Cast list will be posted by January 23th.

Rehearsals will start the week of January 25th

Please email Rachel at rterceira_3839@email.ric.edu with any questions.

Streaming this weekend

Here are the details for the shows streaming this weekend.... HAPPY VIEWING!

Remember to sign up ahead of time... if you wait till right before the opening night stream, you may not be able to get in!

THE LARAMIE PROJECT

In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, while others were citizens of Laramie, and the breadth of the reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

Opening night - Friday, December 18th at 7:30pm

I AND YOU

One afternoon, Anthony arrives unexpectedly at classmate Caroline's door bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Homebound due to illness, Caroline hasn't been to school in months, but she is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. I and You is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.

KCACTF Musical Theatre Scholarship Auditions

 Hello Musical Theatre Students!

The KCACTF is hosting Musical Theatre Scholarship Auditions at this year's conference.
The auditions will be through video submission, and, as with the Irene Ryans, students may submit independently.

If you are interested, please let me know and I will register you.

The deadline to contact me is Monday, December 21. (This is also now the deadline to let me know about participation in the Irene Ryans -- yes, the deadline has changed.)

As I have mentioned before, RIC is paying for the first 30 students who contact me. There are 9 remaining spots. (Those of you who have already contacted me have until December 21 to let me know if you want to participate in the Irene Ryans or the Musical Theatre Scholarship Auditions.)

If RIC runs out of spots, but you are still interested in participating, you may do so, it's just that you will have to pay your own way. (This year is very affordable, since it is virtual -- $25 is the early bird rate.)

Here is the link to the program and its guidelines:
http://www.kcactfregion1.org/student-opportunities/2021-musical-theatre-scholarship-audition-program/

And, again, my email is casey.seymourkim@gmail.com

Thank you!

I & YOU has been postponed. Stay tuned for a new date announcement!

Reminder: Everyman is Streaming this Weekend!

Theatre Students!

One final reminder that our December Theatre Festival begins this week.

Our first production -- our adaptation of the morality play Everyman -- is in the final editing stages and will be streaming this weekend.

We created it from script to filming in one month. It runs 35 minutes -- tell your folks, tell your friends!

Here is the link to our streaming service. There is no cost. (There are different choices to click on, though: "purchase ticket" is for streaming on Friday and "rent video" is for Saturday and Sunday)

Just in case, here is our promotional blurb:

Many are familiar with the morality play Everyman, written by an anonymous playwright in the late 15th century. Consistently taught in literature and drama classes, the journey of its central character continues to speak to us, encouraging us to examine our life, our relationship to mortality, as well as our relationship to the Divine. In recent years, there have been contemporary adaptations, most notably by British poet Carol Ann Duffy and American playwright Brendan Jacob-Jenkins. While these adaptations may change certain stylistic elements, Everyman’s quest remains the same: who amongst his earthly community will accompany him to the grave? Exploring different media and producing their own compositions, our RIC theatre students are at once re-telling this medieval play through a contemporary lens, as well as crafting their own response to the questions that it poses.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
