Friday Guest Speaker: HipHop and Theatre Artist Sokeo Ros

Here is what you should know about Sokeo:

Sokeo is a Providence-based hip-hop and theatre artist.

He was born in a Cambodian refugee camp in Thailand, arriving in the United States at the age of three. As a sophomore in high school, he began performing with the Carriage House Performers, a Providence-based hip-hop group. 

He is presently the Co-Artistic Director of Everett Company. He is working with middle school students to help them understand and cope with their trauma in collaboration with the Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS). He also works with incarcerated youth in Massachusetts in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services.

He has created his own performance pieces, in addition to working with Everett on such community-minded pieces as The Freedom Project, about the high school-to-prison pipeline.

He has also just been named by the Kennedy Center to represent Providence and Rhode Island in the First Works/NEFA Arts Across America series. 

In short, Sokeo is one of the busiest artists around. He is also incredibly generous performer and educator. Check out links to his work below:
