OKLAHOMA! Audition Information

Auditions for OKLAHOMA! will be held Friday, 9/25 from 4:00-9:00pm! 

• Please fill out this Form, if you are planning to audition.

Auditions will begin with a DANCE CALL in the Studio at 4pm. 

• Please note - If you are auditioning for the show, you MUST attend this dance portion!

Starting at 5:00pm, Individual Singing Audition Slots will be held. 

• Please sign up here, for a time slot!
• Please prepare one song from a Golden Age musical (1940s-1965) that does not exceed 3-minutes (and is not from Oklahoma!)
• Lila will be there to provide accompaniment

The callback list will be posted on the Callboard no later than Saturday morning. If you are called, please read the script beforehand. 

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, 9/27 from 1-5pm and will include scene work, and more singing/dance.

The first rehearsal/read through will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at 7pm.

OKLAHOMA! Character Descriptions

Laurey Williams, Female, Soprano.  She lives with her Aunt Eller on a ranch and is in love with Curly, though she may not admit it. 

Curly McClain, Male, Baritone.  He is in love with Laurey, but refuses to admit it. He’s a cowboy and hails himself as the "best bronc buster" in the territory. 

Aunt Eller, Female, Mezzo. She acts as the town’s aunt, a fun-loving caretaker. She watches over the town and a ranch with her niece, Laurey and a hired hand, Jud. She sees the good in everyone. 

Will Parker, Male, Tenor.  Will is a cowboy who is skilled enough to compete in rodeos. Being able to do rope tricks is a plus. Will is a dance role, tap dancer preferred. He is interested in Ado Annie.

Jud Fry, Male, Baritone. Jud takes care of the ranch Laurey and Aunt Eller live on. Jud does not fit in with the society he lives with, he is seen by most as an outsider and misunderstood. He has feelings for Laurey. He works hard to take care of Laurey and Aunt Eller on the ranch. 

Ado Annie Carnes, Female, Mezzo Soprano. Andrew Carnes’ daughter, she “Can’t Say No” to anyone. She wants everyone to be happy. Her heart is always in the right place, but she isn’t always the best judge of character. A comic, romantic lead, she is wooed by Ali Hakim, but deep down she feels a connection to Will Parker. 

Ali Hakim, Male.  Traveling peddler who says he’s from Persia (present day Iran). Though we aren’t sure how much of what he says we can believe. He, like Jud, is an outsider to this community but not feared by most. He likes pretty things and women. He pursues Ado Annie and Gertie Cummings.

Gertie Cummings, Female, Alto or Soprano.  From the next town over, she has eyes on Curly and isn’t waiting around for Laurey to say no to him. She has a unique laugh. 

Andrew Carnes, Male, Tenor. He is very protective of his daughter, Ado Annie. He doesn’t want Will Parker to marry her because he believes the cowboy’s life to be risky and unreliable. To prove this isn’t true he asks for Will to maintain $50 in order to have his daughter’s hand in marriage. He is a rancher, and doesn’t feel very kind to cowboys in general. 

Dance Curly, Male, Dancer.  He must be able to dance a ballet and should resemble Curly in Laurey’s dream ballet. May be doubled as another character or in the ensemble. 

Dance Laurey, Female, Dancer.  She must be able to dance a ballet and should resemble the actress playing Laurey. May be doubled as another character or in the ensemble.

The Request:

Please let us know if you would like to be considered as a member of the Theatre Organization Executive Board.

We currently have Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We need a President!

The Background:

As you know, Theatre Org is a student organization that covers all concentrations in the Theatre Program.

It is responsible for funding all of the theatre productions (costumes, lights, set construction, musicians, etc.). 

Outside of covering production costs, it has funded guest speakers, field trips, and social events for the department. 

In the past, is has also worked to arrange other student-centered activities such as new-play readings, improv nights, Shakespeare in the Square, movie nights, pizza parties, pajama parties.

The Process:

We'll be accepting nominations through Monday evening -- then we'll post an election link so that students can vote on candidates.

Once we get a full Executive Board, we'll be off and running -- already there are some fun ideas floating around. We can't wait to get started on the year!

Casting Call for Student Short Film

Project Synopsis: A broke comic book artist turns to a life of crime fighting after witnessing the 

death of his little sister at the hands of a bloodthirsty vampire. 

Union Status: Non-Union 

Production Dates: October 16, 2026 – December 4, 2026 (the movie will only be filming on 

Fridays during this time period). Actors cast in the film in speaking roles must also be available for a 

table read on the morning of Friday, October 2, 2026. 

Production Locations: Rhode Island College Campus (Providence, Rhode Island) 

Producers – Rosalind Sibielski and Carly Short (RI College Film Studies Program) 

Director – Kaleb Charles

Compensation – No pay; Meals provided & IMDb credit

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS

REMI – (supporting) Male, must be able to play early-20s, any race/ethnicity. Remi is the

roommate/best/only friend of the film’s protagonist. He is an underachiever but with a confident 

personality. He is also witty and has a dry/sarcastic sense of humor. The actor playing this role is 

needed for a one-day shoot. 

ALUCARD – (supporting) actors of all ages, genders, and ethnicities welcome to audition. 

Alucard is one of the antagonists in the film. They are the vampire equivalent of a mafia boss, 

although they are half-human/half-vampire. They are also Dracula’s kid and a total Nepo Baby. 

Alucard is bossy and smart-mouthed. They have totally embraced the goth vampire look. The 

actor playing this role is needed for a one-day shoot. 

DR. DANOWITZ – (cameo) Female, 30s-40s, any race/ethnicity. Dr. Danowitz is the 

protagonist’s therapist. The actor playing this role is needed for a half-day shoot. 

SKETCHY DUDE – (cameo) Male, 20s-50s, any race/ethnicity. Sketchy handoff guy. The 

actor playing this role is needed for a half-day shoot. 

TIK-TOKER – (cameo) Female, must be able to play early-20s, any race/ethnicity. Social

media personality who is attacked by a vampire while live streaming. The actor playing this role 

is needed for a half-day shoot. 

NARRATOR – (voice actor) Male, preferably older-sounding with a cool voice. 

APARTMENT NEIGHBOR – (cameo, non-speaking role) -- actors of all ages, genders, and 

ethnicities welcome to submit headshots. The actor playing this role is needed for a half-day

shoot. 

VAMPIRE - (cameo, non-speaking role) actors of all ages, genders, and ethnicities welcome to

submit headshots. This character is killed by the protagonist as part of a montage that contains 

the final scenes of the film. The scene cuts before the fighting begins so there is no stage combat 

required. The actor playing this role is needed for a half-day shoot.

The hilarious results guarantee no one comes out smelling like a rose.

Connections Course Offered -- LARP Focus!

 Dr. Janice Okoomian here.  I want to tell you about my exciting new course that will run this fall (and also hopefully in Spring 2027).  It's called "Debating Gender Issues through Role-Playing Games," (GEND 263) and it meets Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-11:50.

If you haven't yet taken your Connections course in GenEd, this course might be for you!  This course uses an exciting new approach to education called Reacting to the Past. Reacting courses consist of elaborate LARP (live action role-playing) games set in the past in which each of you will be assigned a role — many of the roles are real historical figures, while others are fictionalized. 

During the semester, we will play two games that focus on gender issues such as voting rights, sexual freedom, the plight of working-class women, equity in the arts, and more.

The first game, "Greenwich Village, 1913: Suffrage, Labor, and the 'New Woman'", is set in New York.  There are two factions: suffrage and labor, and then there are lots of bohemians who are living in Greenwich Village — artists, journalists, teachers, feminists, radicals of various stripes, wealthy socialites — and they have to choose between suffrage and labor.  We'll be reading sources from the period to help you understand the issues, and then you will all write a speech to deliver in character.  There's also a session that is a "salon" where you can do performances, again in character.

The second game is about the Guerilla Girls, a feminist activist group, formed in the 1980s, that calls out the art world (this is the fine art world) about its sexism in playful and humorous ways.

I think these games are an incredibly fun way to learn about history and gender issues, and I hope as many of you will join in as possible.

Auditions for Failure: A Love Story

A bit about the show & auditions from Director Anna Basile:

Auditions for Failure: A Love Story

A clock shop in 1920’s Chicago. A river: of life, of death, and of time. And three sisters, each swimming against the currents of memory, love, and ambition. 

The play itself: 

Kind of a wild romp! A piece of absurd poetry plopped onstage! Failure is a script jam-packed with dense language, and expansive in its opportunities for innovative staging. 

The five principal characters will each be played by a designated actor, and a chorus will be tasked with playing many different parts with the help of puppets and shadow play and more. Two actors will be responsible for performing live foley (think radio play or practical sound effects) and another two will perform as the Gramophone and its accompanist, bringing to life the musical component of the show. 

What to expect in auditions: 

Come dressed ready to move; this is an ensemble heavy show whose engine is high-energy, embodied storytelling. ***Actors with mobility aids or access needs of any kind should not feel discouraged from auditioning. I firmly believe that all bodies are compelling messengers of story and deserving of accommodation.  

Actors will audition in groups, using pieces of text from the show (printouts provided day of). You need not be memorized, I prefer that you focus on showcasing your comprehension and facility with language. Be straight up goofy with it. Silly voices, added sound effects, mimed sequences, all of it yes please!

There will be a short portion of the audition when we will generate material as a group. I will provide a prompt and ask the group to create a vignette. Nothing polished, nothing complete, low stakes environment. I am looking for: playfulness, teamwork, and an openness to failing without hiding and with a sense of humor.
