THIRD MAINSTAGE PLAY!

Our Mainstage #3 preparations are finally underway!

WHAT'S THE PLAY?

Underdog: The Other Other Bronte by Sarah Gordon

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
This play is an irreverent look at the Bronte sisters: Charlotte, Emily, and Anne.
Each of them are high-spirited, foul-mouthed, and have plenty to say. The play tracks their life as they embark on a quest to become groundbreaking authors.

(For those not in the know -- Charlotte wrote Jane Eyre, Emily wrote Wuthering Heights, and Anne wrote The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Victorian England had big reactions to each of them.)

The play plumbs the depths of sibling relationships, the struggle to be recognized while marginalized, and the cost of ambition.

THE CHARACTERS:
Charlotte:  Ambitious and Crafty
Anne:  Ambitious and Mousy
Emily:  Ambitious and Kind of Crazy (or at least a loose cannon)

Three Ensemble Actors will play multiple character roles, including their brother Branwell (who is Ambitious and Moody), publishers, members of high society, terrible children, and so on.

PERFORMANCE DATES:
February 25 through March 1, 2026

AUDITIONS:
Auditions will be held Sunday, November 30, from 11am - 2pm
Callbacks will be held from 3-4pm.

Auditioners will audition with Monologues from the script.
(In other words, you do not have to prepare an independent monologue.)

Auditioners will need to complete an audition application and sign up for an audition slot.

If you are not able to make the in-person auditions, please submit a video to Casey Seymour Kim by Friday, November 28, 2025: casey.seymourkim@gmail.com

AUDITION MONOLOGUES, SIGN-UP SHEET, APPLICATION LINK, AND OTHER INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED BY THIS TUESDAY 11/18/25.

!!URGENT!! ACTORS NEEDED FOR FUNDAMENTALS OF DIRECTING

We need Student Actors!

Students in THTR 425 -- Fundamentals of Directing are working on scenes from She Kills Monsters and Polaroid Stories

We have been able to get some actors, but need your help in filling out other roles.  The scenes will be presented as part of the final for the course. Rehearsal time will be relatively light, since the student directors are only responsible for one scene.

Class time meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm (although your attendance at class is not 100% necessary.).

The Final Presentation will be Wednesday, December 10 from 4-6pm. (You would need to be available for that day and time.)

We need to fill the following roles:

She Kills Monsters: Agnes, Lillith, Calliope, Chuck

Polaroid Stories:  Orpheus, Persephone.

If you are interested, please complete This Google Form by the end of the week; we will get in touch with you next week.

THANK YOU!

THTR 091 Info and Links to Freshman Monologue and Padlet Page

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS FOR THTR 091/JURIES ARE DUE BY

FRIDAY OF NEXT WEEK (OCTOBER 17, 2025)**

(**Yes, we have extended the deadline by a week.)

This is information about THTR 091 and the end-of-semester juries. This information has already been disseminated, but here it is all in one post -- including the monologue assignment for all Freshmen:

What are the juries?

At the end of each semester, students concentrating in Performance, Musical Theatre, and General Theatre with a Performance Concentration must complete an assignment (performing and filming monologues or songs) and then have a short meeting with Bill Wilson and Casey Seymour Kim by the end of the semester.
When are they?
Each student has been given an assigned time and day; it is listed in the 091 syllabus handed out at the first general meeting.

If you do not see your name on the list, or are not sure what your assigned time/day is, just let us know and we'll either tell you or figure out a time for you.
Where are they?
The meetings will be in the BABS (Billie Ann Burell Studio) -- the studio space that is next to the elevator in the Nazarian Center, around the corner of the dance studio and vending machines. Theatre performance classes are held there.
What do I need to do/What is my assignment?
Check the THTR 091 syllabus to confirm what is specifically asked of you for this semester.

Special Note to All Musical Theatre, Performance, and General Theatre Freshman: In your first semester, everyone is assigned the same monologue, which is printed down below. (If you are a General Theatre major with a Technical Design Concentration, this does not apply to you).
1. Film yourself performing your specified material.
2. Upload the video to this padlet page, or send it to Casey Seymour Kim (casey.seymourkim@gmail.com) or Bill Wilson (wwilson@ric.edu.)
3. Please submit this by midterm -- October 17, 2025.
[Gentle Reminder: Part of being a theatre major is checking the RIC Callboard every week for announcements and information about auditions, workshops, talks, rehearsal times, etc.]
*******
Access the monologue for Freshmen, as well as a pdf of the short play at this link. It is very short.

Trinity Student Discount Code

Hi there – I hope your fall semester is off to a great start!

I’m reaching out to share details about a World Premiere play now running at Trinity Rep through October 5. Cold War Choir Practice is a bold new work featuring original music, espionage, and comedy, all set in the nostalgic glow of a retro roller-skating rink. While it has a nostalgic setting, its themes of power, patriotism, and family make the show extremely timely. The production is receiving raves from critics and audiences alike.

We’d love if you could help spread the word to your students or campus network. We’re offering unlimited $25 student tickets for all remaining performances. Students can reserve online or by phone using the promo code STUDYBREAK25.

 To purchase:

  1. Head to our website.
  2. Select your performance date
  3. Choose your seats
  4. Enter STUDYBREAK25 when prompted on the discount page during check-out

About the show: It’s twilight in Ronald Reagan’s America and the specter of nuclear war hangs over the country—but rent is still due on the 1st. When a prominent Black conservative brings his mysteriously ill wife home for the holidays, the unplanned reunion sets long-simmering tensions within the family to boil—and throws each member into a bizarre maze of Reaganomics, Cold War espionage, capitalist cult predation, and… choir practice. Featuring original music and set in the mesmerizing ambiance of a retro roller-skating rink, Cold War Choir Practice celebrates the lengths we go to for those we love.

PROMPT

You are to read your horoscope from the following link: https://www.zodiacsign.com/

You are then to find  and circle the "action" or "verb" words in the description of your horoscope, like  "strong", "fearless", "kind".

You will then use those words to create a movement phrase that uses gestures (not necessarily dance), more like finding movements.
There is no wrong way to do this. If you do not consider yourself a proficient dancer keep it simple. Do not speak, the words are for you to find the gestures/movement.

Here is an example:

If you use music to help you, that is fine, but you will not show it with music. Using music may be a way for your to find your rhythm, but we will not want to see it with music.

A simple way to memorize the gestures/movements is to give them numbers and write the action down and to name them. For Instance:

There is no one way to do this.
IT SHOULD BE 8 GESTURES that repeat in some way, but not necessarily in same order each time.
IT SHOULD BE 1 MINUTE LONG. (no music, no speaking)

This exercise shows your willingness to move, show self expression, the ability to work on a task.
Obviously, this cast needs to be a bit fearless, not just good singers, actors, and dancers, which ever you "think" is your strongest skill, you will all be in some way a creative self motivated vessel for the creation.

Thank you in advance for your time, courage, and willingness.

Best,
Gel & Bill
