Musical Theatre and Performance THTR 091 Students: 


Juries will be held on Friday, April 29th beginning at 1:00 PM and on Wednesday, May 4th beginning at 10:00 AM.  Please sign up for a time on the Callboard. 

Requirements for theatre performance majors and for musical theatre are listed below. 

Please submit a video of your jury to wwilson@ric.edu and jwalrad@ric.edu by Wednesday, April 27th. 

 

JURY REQUIREMENTS FOR THEATRE PERFORMANCE MAJORS 

FRESHMAN PERFORMANCE-Semester 1 

  • One memorized monologue from a published play of approximately one minute in length(provided by the instructor 1 week before jury) 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

FRESHMAN PERFORMANCE-Semester 2 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length each. (1 contemporary serious and 1 contemporary comic) 
  • Execution of a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SOPHOMORE PERFORMANCE-Semester 3 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length (1 contemporary serious and 1 contemporary comic) 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SOPHOMORE PERFORMANCE-Semester 4 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(1 American Psychological Realism/1 Non-American late 19th, Early 20th Century) 
  • Execution of a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

JUNIOR PERFORMANCE-Semester 5 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(2 from pre 1878/no Shakespeare) 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

JUNIOR PERFORMANCE-Semester 6 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(2 Shakespeare) 
  • Execution of a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SENIOR PERFORMANCE-Semester 7 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(1 Moliere/1 from a play written since 2015) 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SENIOR PERFORMANCE-Semester 8 

  • Submission of Monologue Repertoire Book 
  • Performance of one monologue from your book of your choice. 
  • Performance of one monologue from your book chosen by faculty. 
  • Execution of a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

JURY REQUIREMENTS FOR MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE MAJORS 

FRESHMAN MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE-Semester 1 

  • One memorized monologue from a published play of approximately one minute in length(from a play written since 2015) 
  •  One 16 bar cut of a song from the Broadway repertoire. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

FRESHMAN MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE-Semester 2 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length each. (contemporary serious and contemporary comic) 
  • One 32 bar song from the Broadway repertoire. 
  • Execution of a student devised dance combination, and a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SOPHOMORE MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE -Semester 3 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length (from Broadway musicals) 
  • 2 full length songs from the Broadway repertoire. (1 Ballad/1 Up Tempo) 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SOPHOMORE MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE -Semester 4 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(1 American Psychological Realism/1 Non-American late 19th, Early 20th Century) 
  • 2 contrasting full length songs which fulfill two unfulfilled categories from the repertoire list 
  • Execution of a student devised dance combination, and a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

JUNIOR MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE -Semester 5 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(2 from pre 1878/no Shakespeare)

  • 2 contrasting full length songs which fulfill two unfulfilled categories from the repertoire list

  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SENIOR MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE -Semester 7 

  • 2 contrasting monologues from published plays of approximately one minute in length.(1 Moliere/1 of your choice) 
  • 2 contrasting full length songs which fulfill two unfulfilled categories from the repertoire list 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

SENIOR MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE -Semester 8 

  • Submission of Music Repertoire Book and Monologue Repertoire Book 
  • Performance of one monologue from your book of your choice. 
  • Performance of one monologue from your book chosen by faculty. 
  • Performance of one song from your book of your choice. 
  • Performance of one song from your book chosen by faculty 
  • Execution of a student devised dance combination, and a learned physical theatre sequence. 
  • A discussion of the student’s progress in the program with the faculty panel. 

 

* Design/Tech 091s will be on Friday, May 6th. Time slots will be assigned. Please email Nicki if you have any conflicts or preferences between 1-4pm.
