Newport Pride Festival is Seeking Volunteer Performers

If you wish to help out or participate, please reach out to Ronan Long at ronanhlong@gmail.com.

Here are the event basics:

Event date: June 29, 2024
Event time: TBD, depends on actors' availability. The festival is from 12p-6p, and we're planning to have the Pride Fairies perform during several windows (for example, two or three performances each lasting around 45 minutes). Actors must also attend 2-3 brief planning meetings prior to the performance, which will be held at times chosen to accommodate the actors' schedules. These meetings may be held in-person or over Zoom depending on the preference of the actors.
Event description: The Newport Pride Festival celebrates the diversity of Newport through a celebration where everyone can feel accepted and embraced. This event will be filled with live music, art displays, food and drinks, and various activities for all ages to celebrate the community and promote love, acceptance, inclusivity, and diversity of LGBTQ+ identities.
Performance details: Actors will perform an immersive performance art piece at the Newport Pride Festival by walking together among the crowd as a group of "Pride Fairies" while interacting with visitors. The Pride Fairies will act in character as joyful, whimsical fairies and engage visitors of all ages through small skits and games with lightly scripted but mostly improvised dialogue. Actors are responsible for providing their own costumes, which should consist of a colorful fairy costume with wings. Some support may be provided for the costumes, if available. At the event, an enclosed indoor changing area will be available to the actors.
Number of actors needed: 3-4
Compensation: Volunteers preferred. Up to $25 stipend provided per actor, if needed. Actors who are 21+ will receive free entry to the Newport Pride Afterdark event, a 21+ afterparty for the Newport Pride Festival (https://www.newportprideri.org/event-details/newport-pride-afterdark-2), valued at $25-$45.
